OVERVIEW: The Accounting Manager manages and coordinates all of the activities and operations of the accounting department and staff.  The Accounting Manager oversees month end close process, issuing financial statements (Income Statements, Balance Sheets, Cash Flow, Capital Reporting, etc.), manages the Lease Accounting function including all Occupancy, oversees the Accounts Payable and/or Cash & Sales and Accounts Receivable process. Accounting Manager will also own part of the annual budget process directly with the Finance team and work collaboratively to produce accurate financial plans.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Manages all accounting functions including but not limited to accounts payable, lease accounting, cash management and sales process, payroll, accounts receivable and fixed asset accounting.
  • Reviews, evaluates and implements accounting systems, policies, and procedures.
  • Ensures all financial reports are prepared in a timely and accurate manner, including but not limited to balance sheets, income statements, cash-flow reports and variance analysis.
  • Provides management with timely reviews of organization's financial status and progress.
  • Reviews and reconciles general ledger (G/L) activity to ensure all activity is properly recorded and reflected in G/L.
  • Monitors and confirms financial condition by conducting audits; providing information to external auditors.
  • Maximizes return, and limits risk, on cash by minimizing bank balances; making investments.
  • Prepares budgets by establishing schedules; collecting, analyzing, and consolidating financial data; recommending plans.
  • Achieves budget objectives by scheduling expenditures; analyzing variances; initiating corrective actions.
  • Provides status of financial condition by collecting, interpreting, and reporting financial data.
  • Complies with federal, state, and local legal requirements by studying existing and new legislation; enforcing adherence to requirements; filing financial reports; advising management on needed actions.
  • Identifies and negotiates acquisitions, mergers, joint ventures, and/or sale of company assets.
  • Supports creation and renewal of LLC’s, Federal & State ID’s and business licenses.
  • Ensures compliance with statutory payroll and property tax reporting.
  • Oversees accounts payable function including but not limited to compliance with expense reporting and capitalization policies, maintenance of A/P aging, and creation/monitoring of approved vendors.
  • Manages Lease Accounting and Occupancy costs and works directly with landlords to mitigate company costs.
  • Actively participates in the annual budgeting process with Finance and provides insight and analysis in to expense categories, capital expenditures, and G&A expenses.
  • Prepares monthly sales tax returns.
  • Oversees the company’s financial planning and controls; oversees preparation and maintenance of all operating and capital budgets.
  • Reviews and analyzes operational reports to ensure company is achieving goals and objectives; develops and implements corrective measures as required.

 

QUALIFICATIONS/SKILLS:

  • Demonstrated ability to calculate figures and amounts such as interest, commissions, revenue, profit, loss and percentages.
  • Willingness and ability to work in a fast-paced, entrepreneurial environment with minimal support structure.
  • Ability to manage supervised employees and outsourced relationships.
  • Ability to interpret and apply account rules released by FASB.
  • Ability to work with all levels of management, including executive leadership team and store operations.
  • Working knowledge of forecasting and financial reports.
  • Proficiency with Great Plains and Management Reporter.
  • Ctuit and Gusto (POS) experience a plus.
  • Proven leadership and business acumen skills.
  • Ability to review process inefficiencies, make assessment, provide solutions and implement solutions.
  • Highly motivated with ability to manage multiple projects.
  • Good judgment with the ability to make timely and sound decisions.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to deal effectively with a diversity of individuals at all organizational levels.
  • Strong organizational, problem-solving, and analytical skills.
  • Commitment to excellence and high standards.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite.

 

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:

  • Bachelor’s degree (B.A./B.S.) in related field or equivalent.
  • 5 years progressive, multi-unit management experience.
  • Certified Public Accountant (CPA) is a plus.
  • Proficiency with Great Plains and Management Reporter.
  • Ctuit and Gusto experience a plus.
